Our Mission

To assist members in professional development, create training opportunities, and facilitate opportunities for minority business owners to strengthen the position of minorities in the transportation industry within the Central Texas region.

COMTO Austin is a local affiliate of the national Conference of Minority Transportation Officials (COMTO). The COMTO Austin Chapter encompasses the Central Texas region in and around Austin, TX.

Our History

Founded in 1971, on the campus of Howard University in Washington, DC, COMTO was created to provide a forum for senior minority professionals in the transportation industry. Over the past thirty-five years, our mandate has evolved to include not only public transportation industry executives, but also professionals at every level of industry encompassing a variety of fields and disciplines. Now, as was then, members are encouraged to share information, opportunities and personal expertise.

As a continued objective the Austin Area Chapter of COMTO hosts an annual Awards Dinner to benefit the Scholarship program. COMTO has made a commitment to students to assist them with their educational and career aspirations.

What We Do

COMTO Austin is a professional membership organization, comprised of professionals employed by and/or serving within the transportation industry. COMTO Austin also includes student and non-professional members as well. COMTO Austin develops, conducts and convenes transportation education activities for graduate, undergraduate and high school students in transportation, planning or other related fields.

The purpose of COMTO Austin is to promote better conditions, circumstances, and an environment under which all minority groups may achieve meaningful representation, participation, and beneficial results arising out of and in connection with the operation of designated public or private transportation facilities of all modes.
